Shire must unite with Capricorn Enterprise to boost tourism
MAYORAL candidate Kay Becker says unless Livingstone Shire Council unites with Capricorn Enterprise, the region can't move ahead as a tourism hub.
Ms Becker said to effectively promote the region as a tourism hub, the new council needed to get on board with Capricorn Enterprise because the latter had the runs on the board when it came to promoting tourism and economic development in the region.
"It just makes no sense for Livingstone Shire not to be part of this organisation," she said.
"If the Livingstone Shire Council is to become a dynamic part of the Central Queensland CQ region and the nation, we must support the regional tourism and economic body (Capricorn Enterprise).
"Premier Campbell Newman has announced the Queensland Plan, which looks at the long-term future for the state and part of this is the focus of encouraging and moving people from the south-east corner."
Ms Becker said all existing councils had been part of that consultation process, and she would ensure Livingstone Shire Council was involved in further consultation if she became mayor.
"This plan looks at planning, infrastructure and economic development - it is a complete plan for the future of the state and we must be part of it," she said.
"The new Livingstone Shire is in a perfect position to use this plan as part of our future.
"Livingstone Shire must capitalise on these initiatives and support Capricorn Enterprise if the shire is to become a prosperous, dynamic place to live."
