Livingstone Shire to hold Cyclone Marcia anniversary events

FEBRUARY 20, 2015, is a date that will stick in the minds of Central Queenslanders for a very long time following Cyclone Marcia's destruction earlier this year.

But next February, one year on, the focus of that date will be a celebration of a milestone that is now a part of the region's history.

Livingstone Shire Council have planned a TC Marcia anniversary event to celebrate the strength of the community and acknowledge the community for the resilience they have shown post-TC Marcia.

According to the council report, the table of councillors have taken into consideration that many members of the community are still impacted by the effects of Marcia and that any decisions that are made regarding the anniversary would consider the feelings of such residents.

At the Livingstone council meeting yesterday, the motion was carried for the event to run on Saturday, February 20, starting with a combined church service at either Appleton Park or a selected church in the shire followed by a thank-you breakfast for all of the emergency services and volunteers.

A community concert and a fireworks display will feature.

A family movie will show at 7.30pm that day.
