SHOALWATER: Rocky Mayor says outcome a 'win-win' for CQ
ROCKHAMPTON Regional Mayor Margaret Strelow has praised the Marlborough community and politicians who spoke against the forced acquisition of land for the Shoalwater Bay expansion.
"I think it's been a great result that we have a solution that lets our graziers continue to provide their critical part in our significant industry, I mean we are the Beef Capital,” Cr Strelow said.
"I'm absolutely delighted with the result.
"I think this also has committed the continuation of the investment that was going to be made and the jobs that would be generated by the $1 billion.
"My concern in this whole journey was that we would be sending a message to Singapore that they weren't welcome in Rockhampton and nothing could be further from the truth.
"I think it's been a win-win all round and we very much look forward to additional exercises ... without the loss of our beef industry.
"The way it was shaping up, it was a no-win for us, but I believe that there's now an opportunity for us to put a smile on our face and be quite pleased.”
