REBEL Lyons was so excited when Elton John started playing her favourite song Tiny Dancer on Friday night but her boyfriend Tony Ahchay was just nervous.
The 23-year-old Rebel got out her phone to spread the message on social media that Tiny Dancer was being played when Tony stopped her, dropped down to one knee and proposed.
"I was really really shocked,” she said.
"He said to me before we came up to Mackay, 'I am not going to propose to you at Elton John, so I don't want you to get your hopes up'.
"I already knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with him but this was just perfect and really sweet.”
Rebel bought the tickets when the concert was first announced but Tony hadn't decided to propose to his girlfriend of two years until just a month ago.
"About a month ago I got a permanent job (as a pharmacist at Redcliffe Hospital) and I knew then I was I ready to do the husband thing,” he said.
"I have always known we were going to be married but I just needed a permanent job first.”
The setting was perfect for Tony who said it was more intimate because they weren't surrounded by family and friends, but instead 15,000 Elton John fans.
But there was one person who took most of the limelight.
"Watching Elton perform was amazing, he was like Peter Pan up there with his crazy sunnies and incredible blue suit with sparkling diamantes, fantastic written in bright red on the back of his jacket,” Tony said.
"After I proposed we tried calling some relatives, but Elton was too loud and was stealing my thunder.”
However, it was not the first time that Tony has proposed to Rebel, its actually the seventh.
The Brisbane couple met performing on stage in musicals and concerts.
In one performance they landed the roles of Brad and Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show where Tony would have to propose to Rebel each night.
"I am really looking forward to all the shows we can do in the future, the amateur theatre stuff, and the future roles we can get as we grow older,” Tony said.
But in the meantime its about planning the wedding which they started on Saturday on the drive from Mackay to Airlie Beach.
"We will have a wedding themed party in Australia to celebrate with all our friends but the marriage will happen overseas,” Rebel said.
"I always wanted to get married in Vegas.”
