Shopping centre gunman found guilty of attempted murder

A GUNMAN who shot a bikie and a woman at a Gold Coast shopping centre has been found guilty of attempted murder and unlawful wounding.

A jury found Mongols bikie gang member Mark James Graham, 28, responsible for the stray bullet which hit Kathy Devitt while she walked through the Robina Town Centre.

Graham fired two shots in quick succession at then-Bandidos member Jacques Teamo after being verbally confronted during a chance meeting in April, 2012.

CCTV footage showed Mr Teamo had pulled out a knife but backed off once he saw Graham's gun.

Graham had only been in Queensland for a few days, having arrived from Melbourne to visit his young daughter who lived on the Gold Coast.

"The period between the shots was something like one to two seconds," Crown Prosecutor Michael Byrne QC said."But he did not waver from that.

"The second shot was fired in what can only be understood as incredibly dangerous circumstances, when it must have been patently obvious to anybody who paused to think that somebody else could be struck."

Ms Devitt recovered physically and went on to represent Australia in the World Masters hockey tournament.

Graham has a previous criminal record for illegal possession of firearms, body armour, ammunition and possession of amphetamines and steroids.

The jury delivered a guilty verdict after six hours of deliberation, following a week-long trial.

Justice Alan Wilson will sentence Graham at 11.30am tomorrow.
