Gunshots and house fire: Arson among 10 charges laid

A 47-year-old Nambour man has been charged after police rushed to the town following reports of gunfire.

As they attempted to question one man in custody, police again heard a gunshot.

As they cordoned off the area, smoke began billowing from a Washington St home.

A second man was then taken into custody.

The gunshot heard by police is thought to have caused a self-inflicted wound.

The fire tore through the home, as fire crews attempted to bring it under control.

On Monday morning, police confirmed the man was charged with two counts of serious assault on a police officer, unlawful possession of a weapon, dangerous conduct with a weapon, possessing ammunition and breaching a domestic violence order.

He was also charged with arson and making threats.

The man is to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.

Shots fired, home destroyed by fire in Nambour

POLICE are investigating after several shots were fired from a house at Nambour this afternoon.

Around 4.46pm, police were called to an address in Washington St following reports a shot had been fired.

Upon arrival police took a man into custody when a second man discharged a firearm.

Police withdrew and formed a cordon around the address and closed several streets.

A short time later smoke was seen coming from the house and the second male was taken into custody suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to what are considered to be non-life threatening injuries.

The house was destroyed despite the best efforts of fire crews.

A crime scene has been established as investigations continue.

Several hours later, Nambour was the scene of even more drama after an apparent burst water main.

It happened just outside of the KFC fast food restaurant.
