Road less travelled: show us your best stuff Rockvegas

ROCKHAMPTON residents are being called to share their top local travel spots as part of a new campaign to map Australia's best road trip destinations on Instagram for the first time.

Around Australia in 60 Days aims to provide a digital trail of Australia's best-kept tourism secrets, spanning the circumference of Australia from Darwin to Cairns.

To ensure that the best, but less well-known sights and destinations of Rockhampton are included, locals are invited to submit their best recommendations.

Whether it's a great local bakery, the perfect spot to take a selfie or an extreme adventure activity, locals are urged to think outside the box with their tips.

One pair of travellers who will be watching their social media feeds closely for Rockhampton tips are Max Watson and Will Ross, two friends who are among eight lucky travellers who have each won an opportunity to drive a leg of a 60-day, 9319km trip across Australia.

After submitting a video showing Avis why they would make the best tour guides, the duo were chosen to drive the fourth and final leg of the journey from Sydney to Cairns and will stop at 15 towns and cities including Rockhampton over the weekend.

Max said the pair were keen to make the most of their time in the area.

"We're really excited about visiting Rockhampton and cannot wait to explore some of its secret locations and hidden gems," he said.

Head to Avis Australia's Instagram and Facebook pages to view the journey so far.
