Siblings 'climb every mountain' from school to parliament

THE Rockhampton Grammar School siblings Banuka Ralapanawa (Year 8) and his sister Dasuni (Year 11) have shone at a speaking event.

Banuka will represent the region in the state finals of the Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition at Parliament House in Brisbane on July 5.

Banuka's prepared speech in the regional round was on the topic of "Climb every mountain", speaking of the figurative mountains we all climb in life, before discussing his own family's journey to Australia from Pakistan.

His impromptu speech was on "Can't live without it" and he spoke about his parents. Dasuni placed runner-up in the senior division of the regional round after providing her prepared speech on "But just wait there's more" followed by an impromptu speech on "Not in my backyard".
