Siege leads to assault charges

A MAN has been charged with two counts of common assault and two of wilful damage after a siege in Rockhampton on Friday evening.

The man is also expected to face additional charges of serious assault on police and public nuisance, a police spokesman said yesterday.

The siege, in Patrick Street, Allenstown, ended at about 8pm when he inflicted wounds on himself.

Earlier in the afternoon the street had been flooded with police - including dog squad officers and skilled negotiators - after a report that a number of people had been threatened and chased from a house at knifepoint.

For more than three hours the man refused to leave the property peacefully.

He was treated at Rockhampton Hospital for serious wounds.
