A LEGENDARY singer-songwriter with incredible vocal skills, Beth Hart will return to Bluesfest next year for her second romp at the Byron Bay festival.

The gutsy American wowed audiences at this year's event, and she said she couldn't wait to play there again.

"It's gonna be so much fun, I had the best time last year," she said.

It wasn't just Hart who had a great time - many festival-goers felt she was one of the standout performances of the 2014 festival.

"That's really great to hear that," Hart said.

"I liked the way they had the whole festival set up. All the artists got to hang out backstage, so you were in such a good mood and then you get to go out there and play.

"(It all) really blew my mind."

Hart is working on a new album, which was recorded in New York a few weeks ago, she said.

"I'm actually right now in the middle of mixes. It should be released in early February," she said.

"I think I'm gonna call it Better Than Home," she added, brushing off the query as to whether she should reveal that just yet.

"F*** it, and if I change it, no one's gonna die," she laughed.

She's certainly earned the right to be relaxed about decisions like that - she was nominated for a Grammy for Seesaw, a collaboration album with Joe Bonamassa, and a Blues Music Award in the category Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist - feats she can't help feeling excited about.

"Oh my god dude, I'm sorry but it was awesome, I couldn't believe it," she said.

"I was on the road somewhere, I was asleep and my husband (came in and told me).

"When you're in that sleep stage you don't really know what's going on, so it took a while to sink in. But it immediately made me feel thrilled.

"It meant a lot to me.

"I've got the medal hanging up in my bedroom - I'm so proud of it."

Hart is soon departing on a massive tour.

"It'll be a lot of touring this year," she said.

"I do a lot of touring - I'm not a big speller … I gotta make a living.

"I never do know where the hell I'm going, but I know a show I've never got to do before," she said, referring to playing at Royal Albert Hall in London.

Last time she played in London she was in a 50-seater hall, so to now play at the Royal Albert Hall "blows her mind", she said.
