Singer steps out of shower and onto stage for X Factor

ROBERT Kemp has only ever sung into his shower head.

But yesterday the Rockhampton 73-year-old stepped out of the shower and onto the stage of the Pilbeam Theatre to audition for X Factor.

Robert said he had never sung in front of someone before but wanted to give it a go.

"I've sung in the shower all of my life," he said.

"I'm in a world of my own when I'm singing in the shower and I just thought there was a chance now that X Factor was in Rockhampton.

"I wasn't nervous, I'm a real, real extravert and I use to be an AFL coach for the Rockhampton Panthers for 15 years and other local teams, so this is nothing."

Robert said he was living proof that age was only a number and something that didn't limit him from doing what he wanted to do.

"I love X Factor, I watch it every year and I didn't want to miss my chance to be on it," he said.

"I don't think age should stop anyone. If you want to give it a go, then give it a go.

"I don't think I'm going to win but I'm going to give it a bloody good scare."

Robert sang The Good Times by Perry Como for his audition song.
