Skipper’s 100th set to motivate the Firebirds

THEY played the first official draw in the ANZ Championship two weeks ago, and the Queensland Firebirds and New South Wales Swifts will do battle again in Brisbane tonight.

Firebirds captain Laura Geitz (pictured) will celebrate her 100th game in the clash between the arch-rivals, but teammate and good friend Clare McMeniman said a loss would take some gloss off the achievement.

"Milestone games are big occasions and Laura is an incredible captain so it's up to the girls to really rally for her and get a win on the board," McMeniman said.

"The 100 games won't mean as much to her if we lose."

Another 40 goal-haul from star shooter Caitlin Bassett helped the West Coast Fever beat the Adelaide Thunderbirds 55-50 to retain top spot on the standings.

The Fever has four wins and a draw, while the Thunderbirds are propping up the table with a win, a draw and three losses.
