CCTV cameras keep close eye on CBD
IF YOU'RE sipping a coffee, browsing shop windows, or if you decide to pick a fight - remember to smile for the cameras.
Police have their eye on you if you're in the Rockhampton CBD.
And if you decide to cause some trouble, they'll track you down within minutes.
CCTV cameras are strategically placed around Rockhampton's CBD to catch every moment, especially the moments you'd rather forget.
Rockhampton Sergeant Paul Bennett showed The Morning Bulletin the CCTV system police used, which was put in place by Rockhampton Regional Council.
The cameras, which are three years old, cover a large area of the CBD to catch any bad behaviour going on.
Sgt Bennett said the cameras were on 24/7 and were monitored from their communications room by police officers.
He said they were monitored more frequently during weekends.
"If we have an incident crews can come and look at the footage and find out exactly what happened," Sgt Bennett said.
"If someone's fighting on the street, they'll be caught.
"They are an incredible asset we can immediately recall what has happened."
It's not just fighting that'll be caught on camera.
Sgt Bennett said the cameras had also been used to pick up offenders running away from the scene of a break and enter.
