SMS prompts council to stage work

ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council will revitalise the garden areas at the Rockhampton Art Gallery and Pilbeam Theatre in a major landscaping exercise to be undertaken in the new year.

Deputy Mayor and chair of council's community development and customer service committee, Rose Swadling, said the exercise was in response to an SMS message about the state of the gardens at both venues. The SMS was published in The Morning Bulletin yesterday.

“From mid-January 2011 landscaping will commence to revamp and revitalise this area, with works expected to be completed in one week from the start date,” Cr Swadling said.

“I too am disappointed that the gardens at this normally vibrant community facility are looking very dishevelled.”
