WHEN it comes to selfies, some people know better than others exactly how to capture the best shot.
Defined in the Oxford Dictionary as "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media", selfie is one of the most popular terms in today's society.
So popular in fact, it was named by Oxford Dictionaries as the word of the year in 2013 after research suggested its frequency in the English language had increased by 17,000% from 2012-2013.
If you think your selfie game is strong, you have the chance to put your skills to the test and prove it when The Workshop Rockhampton hosts a competition on June 19 to find Rockhampton's Selfie Queen.
The competition, which will start at 7pm, is open to girls aged 16 and over.
All competitors must use their own smartphone to take selfies on the night and upload them to their Instagram account.
Rules of the competition include that selfies cannot be edited outside Instagram and there will be categories for filtered and unfiltered photos.
The selfies will be judged and short listed by a panel of professionals and the winners will be chosen by the audience.
It costs $10 to enter the competition.
The winner has the chance to let someone else take their photo for a change and will receive an advanced photo shoot with Wicked Tales, including hair and professional make-up.
