Soccer fan's mad about FIFA
DIMITRI Kondilis walks out on the field in his white number seven Real Madrid jersey.
It is the position of his favourite football player Cristiano Ronaldo, and in this match Dimitri gets to control his every move.
The Rockhampton 21-year-old is soccer mad, and if he's not training or playing a match with his first division Bluebirds United Football Club team-mates, he is playing against them in his dream team over the internet on the Sony Playstation 3 football game FIFA.
And Dimitri is about to play his biggest match in his virtual soccer career when he competes in the FIFA Interactive World Cup Live Qualifying Event for 2012.
Australia is one of only 11 countries in the world, and Rockhampton is one of eight cities in the country, to host the live tournament events, which are sure to excite sport gamers.
The pre-qualifying event will be held at the EB Games store at Stockland Rockhampton on March 22.
The player who wins will be invited to compete in the international grand final event for a chance to win US$20,000.
Dimitri was amazed that the qualifying event was being held in Rockhampton and said he would definitely give it a shot.
"I've got a few mates who play FIFA as well and we are interested in entering the world cup, but it's only ever held in big cities," he said.
"Because I'm a soccer fan, this would be sweet to see what I'm like against the whole world."
Last year, just under 900,000 players from around the world took part in the event and Australia's Mark Azzi won third place in the grand final.
As well as the large prize money, Dimitri will play for the chance to meet Ronaldo at the annual FIFA Players Gala.
Players must register online to secure a spot in the pre-qualifying events at fiwcaustralia.com.au/.
