Spectacular catch a YouTube hit
INTERNATIONAL media have labelled it one of the greatest cricket catches ever and it's hard to disagree.
The outstanding catch by Central Stags' Michael Mason of Northern Knights batsman Brad Wilson during Friday's HRV Cup clash, thanks to a jumping assist by substitute fielder Bevan Small, has gone viral.
Media have lauded the play with British newspapers The Mirror and The Telegraph rating it amongst the greatest pieces of fielding ever seen on a cricket field.
Wilson lofted a drive down the ground that looked headed for the boundary before Small launched himself at the ball, catching it horizontally over the boundary and flicking it back to Mason, who dived to take a brilliant catch.
Wilson stuck around while the umpires conferred. "To the naked eye it looked out from where I was standing but it's always worth hanging around," he said.
"My gut feeling was that I'd got enough bat on it to carry the boundary rope but it was a special bit of fielding there in the end. Another day I might have got six for it."
