Speed demon returns to MX national stage

ZANE Keleher will continue his pursuit towards national glory when he tears up the track for his fifth consecutive year in the 2015 Monster Energy MX Australian Championships.

The 22-year-old Rockhampton motocross star will travel to Horsham, Victoria, to contest the opening round on March 29.

"I've been training hard and am entering this year's competition with plenty of confidence," he said.

Keleher overcame a shoulder injury to finish 17th in the 250cc class last year.

The talented rider hopes to redeem his reputation on the circuit in 2015 by finishing inside the top 10.

"I finished fourth in the two-stroke cup last year and placed well in the Northern Privateer Cup," he said.

"There are a lot of young guys stepping up into the class this year who won't have the 13 years' experience that I do, so hopefully that works in my favour."

But the pursuit of motocross doesn't come cheap, as Keleher will tell you.

"Racing in the 10 rounds of the Australian Motocross Championship is set to cost me around $55,000 - and that doesn't include any state or local events," he said.

"This year alone I will be travelling 30,000km just too get to events and compete."

As part of a family-owned local engineering business, Penti-M Engineering, Zane understood the importance of supporting locals.

"Our business has supported the local motocross scene for years, so we really know what the cost is to Rocky kids who want a place on the national stage," he said.

"After the 2011 floods, we helped construct the badly damaged track at Six Mile."

One of only six privateers in the competition last year, Keleher is looking for new local sponsorship to come on board this year.

"I'm looking for a naming rights sponsor as well as gold and silver sponsors," he said.

"Millions of motor racing fans worldwide see the MX Nationals through live streaming online, and this year the championships are televised nationally, so it's a great opportunity to get your logo in front of an extremely dedicated audience."
