$900 spending spree on stolen card ends in jail

MICHAEL John Ball will face six months behind bars after going on a $900 spending spree with a stolen debit card.

Ball, 34, pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of stealing after a previous conviction and one of fraud.

The court heard Ball had been doing labouring work for the mother of a friend, staying with the family from March 17 to 23.

During the week, Ball took his friend's debit card from the house.

Police prosecutor Danita Clarke said Ball used the card for 35 unauthorised transactions at supermarkets, liquor stores and restaurants, racking up a $902.61 bill.

Ball was sentenced to six months jail with a parole release on August 19 and ordered to pay restitution.
