Spike in thefts on Biloela streets

THEFT has been on the rise in Biloela in recent weeks with an increase in vehicle theft.

Vehicles have been stolen and dumped and there has also been a number of bicycle thefts in a recent days.

Detective Sergeant Nathan Lucy from the Biloela Criminal Investigation Branch said that there had been two separate incidents of motor vehicles being stolen from Kroombit Street addresses in Biloela on November 24 and December 6.

“Both vehicles were later recovered short distances from their addresses. However, investigations are continuing to identify offenders for the offences,” Srg Lucy said.

“Kroombit Street is a thoroughfare where a lot of people are walking and driving but there has been no connection made between the two incidents other than being on the same street.”

There have also been three separate reports of bicycles stolen around town between December 5-9.

“The bikes are generally stolen from yards and the thieves are opportunistic and are taking advantage of items not being locked away or secured,” Srg Lucy said.

“Bicycle theft does happen but it’s been a small increase in the theft of bikes.

“There are other cases of stolen bikes that may have not been reported yet so we ask if people are missing bikes to report them to police.”

Two of the stolen bikes were recovered by Biloela Police over the weekend (December 7-8) which police are still trying to link to people and properties.

Srg Lucy is appealing for anyone with information on the thefts to come forward and contact Biloela Police or Crime Stoppers.

“I just want to remind people to be vigilant with their property particularly with the school holidays approaching,” Srg Lucy said.

“Make sure keys and valuables are taken out of vehicles, the vehicles are locked and bicycles are kept stored or locked away somewhere out of sight.”
