Sports galore at showgrounds expo
RUGBY League legend Shane Webcke said he'd never seen anything quite like yesterday's Lane 4 Aquatics 2012 Sports and Health Expo at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
The former Broncos player and Australian representative was the special guest at the expo, where 73 stallholders, made up of sports clubs, gyms and other fitness groups, offered information on sports, recreation and health.
Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council's Sport and Recreation Committee, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits, with 1600 people braving the wet weather to attend the event.
From archery to motorbike racing, lawn bowls to outrigging and more - there was a sport to suit everyone.
"I go to events across Queensland and I've never been to anything like this," Shane said.
Rockhampton father Jason Masefield agreed with Shane.
He and his wife, who are both avid softballers, encouraged their children to get involved in one of the many sports available.
"It's a great opportunity to see different sports," Jason said.
"There's some things people don't know about, like trap-shooting and archery."
He said it was an improvement on last year's expo, which was mostly based around ball sports.
Roller Derby stallholder Sabrina Toby said it had been a successful event, with about 60 people showing interest in the rapidly growing sport.
