St Kilda player talks new team mate after drug infringement

AFL: St Kilda player David Armitage says team mate Jake Carlisle is "working hard" to earn the respect of his team mates after arriving at the club in controversial circumstances.

Armitage was at Alexandra Headland beach yesterday when his team took to the water for surf drills as part of their pre-season training which will see the squad based here this week.

A video of Carlisle appearing to snort a white powdered substance in Las Vegas appeared on A Current Affair the day after he was traded to the Saints. The 24-year-old subsequently accepted a first drugs strike.

"There is a lot of water to go under the bridge before round one and he won't play until round three," Armitage said.

"He just wants to fit in with the boys and earn respect and that is the only way he will do it, by working hard.

"He's looking for a fresh start and is fitting in really well and training hard."

Saints player Hugh Goddard was taken to hospital via ambulance on Monday after suffering from heat exhaustion during a training session.

"Huey is well and was discharged this morning and spent the night under guidance," Armitage said.

"It was hot and you can lose a couple of kilos out there and you have got to watch what you out back into your body, especially when you lose a lot of sweat.

"The boys had a meeting last night and you have just got to make sure that when you get offered a drink, you take it."
