St Ursula's College students win with the power of words

ST URSULA'S College, Yeppoon Year 12 students Abi Cooper, Cassidy Callinan, and Amelia Grudon really like to argue the point.

The students defeated the Rockhampton Grammar School team and debated their way to victory in the Rockhampton District Secondary School Debating Competition Grand Final this week.

Hosted by the Rockhampton Grammar School, Abi, Cassidy and Amelia were well supported as they argued the negative to the topic "The bigger they are, the harder they fall”.

"There were quite a few students from the college that travelled to Rockhampton and watched the debate, it was good to have so much support,” Abi said.

"In the lead up to this debate, we had a lot of discussions, and really fleshed out the whole argument,” Amelia said.

"We have been members of the College Debating Team for four years now,” Cassidy said.

"In 2016, we had a good season, and won the overall Senior trophy, but this year, we were undefeated the entire season.

"Our team was mentored by the Head of English Department at the College, Ms Connolly, and we are grateful for her guidance.”
