Star couple saddle up for rodeo

WHEN it comes to rodeo Shane and Leanne Kenny like to keep things in the family.

Recently the Emerald husband and wife rodeo stars both won events at the Richmond Rodeo and are among the favourites going in to the Cloncurry Merry Muster, which concludes tonight, and Mt Isa rodeo next weekend.

The Richmond Rodeo was the third of six rodeos on the “Northern Run” and at the event Shane won the rope and tie from another Emerald, and former Hughenden, cowboy Clancy Middleton who was runner-up.

In the women’s barrel race, Leanne was victorious while runner-up was Jamie Lee Williams.

Leanne was also fourth in break away roping and that gave her enough points to move up the all around cowgirl standings.

Springsure rider Brendan Kenny enjoyed more success on the circuit when he combined with Victorian star Aaron Bookluck to win the team roping.

Emerald was also able to claim triple success in the team roping where Roy Izzard combined with Karl Simpson for second place and with Angela Simpson for fifth.

Walcha cowboy Carl Green was second in the saddle bronc ride and was hoping to continue that success at Cloncurry where he drew the bull Hard Yards last night in the Open Bull Ride and has saddle bronc horse Queen of Colours tonight.

Cloncurry has attracted big nominations with 387 cowboys and cowgirls and with Green one of 18 open bull riders on the first day of the event while Chris Lowe, of Uralla, is one of 23 bull riders drawn to buck out today.

Lowe is on Action Dangerous.
