Sterjovski to hang up boots at season end

FORMER Socceroo Mile Sterjovski has announced he will retire at the end of the A-League season.

The 34-year-old will play out the rest of the campaign with Central Coast to try and secure the club a second straight championship.

Like many of his generation, Sterjovski (pictured) enjoyed a good career overseas, including stints with Lille in France and Swiss club FC Basel before returning to the A-League with Perth, where he scored 15 goals in 63 games.

Sterjovski's retirement came the day after the Mariners signed three new players before the transfer window closed. Glen Trifiro and Matt Sim joined on loan from NSW Premier League outfits Sydney United 58 and Sutherland Sharks, respectively, until the end of May, while Cernak signed from Perth Glory.

Meanwhile, Sydney FC midfielder Ali Abbas has agreed to a two-year contract extension.
