Steve Hooker vows to keep on dancing after TV exit

OLYMPIAN Steve Hooker plans to keep on dancing after his Dancing With The Stars exit last night.

The gold medal-winning pole vaulter was eliminated from the celebrity ballroom dancing competition after facing some stiff competition from the remaining four dancers Tina Arena, Libby Trickett, Cosentino and Rhiannon Fish.

"It would have been nice to do the two dances coming up (on Sunday), but it was good to get this far in the competition," he said.

"At this point it's very, very competitive."

He said while his pole vaulting training was more high intensity, dancing required much longer hours of rehearsals.

"To do something where you might do 10 hours of training a day is very different for me," he said.

"It was nice going into someone else's world. You get a true understanding of how hard they (professional dancers) work. They're true athletes."

Hooker told APN he plans to continue dancing as a way to keep fit with his wife, Katya Kostetskaya.

"Something I'll definitely keep doing a little bit," he said.

"My wife certainly wants to dance once a week.

"I never lacked confidence on the dance floor but now I might actually have some moves to show (laughs)."

While he said all four finalists were deserving winners, he reckons Tina Arena has shown the most improvement.

"It's hard to know what the votes are, but in terms of dancing Tina's the one making the biggest steps forward," he said.

"Rhiannon started strong and maintained a really high level, but Tina has more momentum.

"Tina's come out and just blown us away with her fitness and power that you wouldn't expect from the little pocket rocket that she is."

Dancing With The Stars continues on Sunday at 6.30pm on Channel 7.
