Still no decision on Jayant Patel retrial

THERE is still no decision on whether former Bundaberg surgeon Jayant Patel will face a retrial for the alleged grievous bodily harm of patient Ian Vowles.

The matter was listed for review again today in the Brisbane District Court after a jury failed to reach a verdict in his trial last month.

Crown Prosecutor Todd Fuller asked Judge Glenn Martin to adjourn the matter until November 15 so the crown could go over submissions received during the week from the defence.

Earlier, both sets of barristers appeared in the Brisbane Supreme Court where Patel has two outstanding manslaughter charges.

The crown sought an adjournment until November 15 which Justice Michael Shanahan granted.

Dr Patel did not appear before either court.
