Storm clouds tease Rockhampton
ROCKHAMPTON was teased by a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon as dark black clouds whipped over the city.
There was lightning and thunder, but barely any rain.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology said the heaviest rain cells avoided Rockhampton.
“Some people would have got some really good falls between Rockhampton and Mt Morgan,” he said around 6.30pm.
“Someone got wet out there but unfortunately most people were just teased.”
The spokesman said Rockhampton was in for some more stormy weather today with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
He said while a thunderstorm was “an outside chance” it was more likely there would be some light rain over the city during the day.
Across Central Queensland yesterday not many stations had recorded much rain.
There was some light rainfall recorded at Emerald (3mm) and Rolleston (4.8mm).
A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the little bit of rain across Central Queensland yesterday would do little to fight the fire that had ravaged the district.
However, he said the QFRS would monitor any rainfall to see how it affected areas that had been hit by fire.
