Strelow praises investors as CBD is revived
ROCKHAMPTON Mayor Margaret Strelow has applauded the involvement of new investors, both locally and those from outside the region, in the Rockhampton CBD.
"Our efforts and programs around the riverbank, in the CBD, are very much about recognising the role of the CBD as the heart of the region,” Cr Strelow said.
"We have also committed to working with the State Government, through its Advancing Our Cities and Regions strategy, on a targeted program to renew our CBD and help stimulate ongoing employment and economic activity for the tourism, construction, entertainment, leisure, retail and services sectors.”
Cr Stelow said Rockhampton's CBD was ready for large-scale renewal.
"That is why the State Government and council have partnered on two key projects for residential and student accommodation,” Cr Strelow said.
"Beyond these catalyst projects, a city building and urban design excellence agenda will be at the heart of planning for the precinct that will encompass and enhance the core historical buildings.
"Developing delivery models to attract investment and financing is one of the key elements EDQ has committed to working with council on.”
