Strong aftershock hits NQ

THERE'S been a strong aftershock following the 5.2 magnitude earthquake near Bowen  in North Queensland.

The 4 magnitude tremor came about 5pm Saturday, with its centre near the same location as the 5.2 quake which shook up residents about 3.30pm.

Its felt impact was more than 200km and was reported in Mackay and other nearby towns.

The US Geological Survey says the quake happened at 3.31pm on Saturday and had its centre 124km southeast of Townsville, 10km below the surface.

The ABC says there are no reports of damage so far.
