BRENDAN Duke has spent today trying on different trade belts.

The high school student, all the way up from Brisbane's Nudgee College, was taking part in today's Try-a-Trade at CQUniversity's Rockhampton TAFE campus.

Brendan said he always knew he wanted to do a trade.

He commended the university merger with CQ TAFE in making learning transitions easier; a union that is also celebrating its first anniversary today.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor  Professor Scott Bowman said it had been a successful, and quick, 12 months.

"Our numbers have been going up for the past four or five years, but we are seeing a big increase this year again, particularly on the TAFE side of the university," he said.

"We have had some challenges around our processes and putting the computer systems into place but they've all gone pretty well now."
