Cathedral College gives a peak into its $6m accommodation

LUKE Rumpf has enjoyed his first week back at school in his new home away from home.

The Cathedral College Residential captain has lived in the $6 million boarding complex, which was officially opened by diocesan director of Catholic Education Leesa Jeffcoat and Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry yesterday, since the start of the school term.

Luke has been a boarder at The Cathedral College for two years since making the move from Baralaba where his family still resides.

"It's a big difference from the old residential building to the new one and all the new facilities. I was sharing a room in the old residential building so it's nice to have my own room to myself," he said.

The 17-year-old is one of the 60 male students who are the first residential students at the new day campus boarding complex.

The Cathedral College principal Rob Alexander said the opening of the new boarding facility indicated the growth of the school's residential demand.

"This new campus can accommodate 80 students and there are also two flats for live-in supervisors and families," he said.

"The original boys' residential building on Upper Dawson Rd had a capacity in the high 40s and we have 60 students so this new building gives us the capacity to grow, which we will with Year Seven being introduced next year.
