'O what a week' at CQUniversity for new students in region

MORE than 400 new students yesterday started a new chapter in their life at CQUniversity's Rockhampton campus, as O-Week kicked off.

Orientation week gives students a look at university life, letting them explore the campus and learn more about their degree.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said it was important for new students to take part.

"It is going to be your first taste of uni life and will also provide opportunities to meet your lecturers and peers," he said. "Without a doubt, Orientation Week will put you on the right track before you even attend a lecture."

Montana Lowrey, 18, Yeppoon, studying Bachelor of Professional Communication specialising in Journalism:
"I love studying. I'm excited to get into the uni vibe. I think it will give me direction."

Claire Craig, 18, Emu Park, studying Bachelor of Professional Communication specialising in Journalism: "Making friends. I'm not sure about my career, that's why I'm here. I'm excited about discovering the course and seeing where it takes me."

Monica Linnane, 19, Emu Park studying Bachelor of Arts specialising in Creative Writing, History, and Multimedia: "Definitely the history course, but also multimedia, because animation really interests me."

Emily Donaldson, 17, Emu Park, studying Bachelor of Professional Communication specialising in Digital Media Production: "Not being bored at home any more. It will help me get into the business area."

Yesterday, The Bulletin asked readers what their first impressions of university were. This is what they said:
