Stupidity smears league, but it's only a handful that act

CQ NRL Bid CEO Denis Keeffe has asked the question why senselessness and stupidity always gets the headlines when it comes to rugby league.

Writing in his weekly column, Keeffe said he was often amazed at how the "off-beat, silly and radical" actions attracted the "big media story".

He was referring to the recent Todd Carney incident.

"I am not going to defend the indefensible ... it is evident that there are a number of behavioural issues when he is in an intoxicated state," Keeffe said.

He said the irresponsible actions of Carney were not representative of the vast majority of great people involved within the game.

"This is what irks me the most. This is why bringing the game into disrepute must not be tolerated because his actions smear us all," Keeffe said.
