Subaru's new concept Impreza sedan revealed

SUBARU revealed the concept version of its new Impreza sedan in Los Angeles this week to complement the hatch we saw at the Tokyo Show last month.

The previews give us a good indication of what next-generation Impreza - built in line with the company's Prominence 2020 plan - will look like. It is the first of Subaru's offerings to be based on their new common platform which is expected to do duty in all the company's products.

This concept car makes for a striking picture and bears a remarkable resemblance to the WRX Concept car revealed in 2013 but was replicated in actual production.

Positioned as an entry model in the Subaru line-up, Impreza sedan concept's compact body features a blend of bold expressions of Subaru's dynamic and solid design elements and a quality feel beyond its class.

It hints at the design direction not only of next Impreza, but of Subaru's future models in general.

The five-seat sedan in a beautiful metallic Ruby Red sits on sporty 19-inch alloys and measures 4555mm in length, 1880mm in width and 1453mm in height with a wheelbase that is 2670mm long.

The concept car, just a tad bigger than the current Impreza, stands low and wide with dynamic lines and a decidedly powerful presence enhanced by the hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights.

The new Subaru Impreza is not expected until 2017 with the WRX and STI performance options likely to take a couple years longer.

The current range, which had a slight update at the end of last year, remains a popular choice in Australia, helped of course by the drop in prices brought by the Free Trade Agreement with Japan.

Even with its revised bumpers and new fog-light casings and chrome highlights, this version looks quite bland when compared to the unmissable concept car that will provide the basis for the new model.
