Sue Harris masters blustery conditions to blow away field

BLUSTERY conditions helped Sue Harris blow away the field at the Yeppoon Golf Club.

Harris took out the club's single stableford event on Saturday, finishing two points ahead of Denise Trott. Finishing her round on 42, Harris equalled men's winner and former Yeppoon Seagulls flyer Dean Brooks.

Brooks was a one point winner over Trevor Renata.

Schanell Horwell took out the A-grade pin shot on the third, while Young Jin Hendrie and June Bulger collected the prizes for the pin shots in B-grade and C-grade respectively.

On Sunday, Bernie and Sarah Lacey handled the wind with ease, scoring 42 points on their way to a one-point win over John and Ellen Corfield in the mixed four-ball stableford competition.

Ewan Zipf (37 points) won the single stableford on a count back from Damien Marrinan. The blustery conditions continued for the Australia Day holiday single stroke competition, but didn't hamper Harris and Keri Wilson's form.

Wilson claimed the ladies event with a 75 net from Lacey, who shot a 76, but it was Harris who won the ladies pin shot and pro shot on the day. Gavin Daniels (71) was a one stroke winner of the men's event, finishing ahead of John Corfield. The pro shot on No.6 went to Jeff Ingle. The 2014 opening day is on Saturday with ladies and gents playing a 4-ball aggregate stableford. Register by 11.30am.
