UPDATE 10AM: An investigation will be launched into how a blaze broke out in a Sunshine Coast Airport hangar, causing extensive damage to the building.
Eight fire crews converged on the McDermott Aviation hangar after the fire broke out just before 9.10am, with officers at the scene describing the building as "well involved" in fire.
But quick action from firefighters contained the blaze to the mezzanine floor, and the fire was declared extinguished about 9.33am.
A worker suffered smoke inhalation and had to be rescued from the building by colleagues.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said with firefighters unsure what sparked the blaze, fire investigators had been requested to ascertain the cause.
Smoke billowing from the hangar cast a dramatic scene over the airport, visible from nearby homes and the Sunshine Motorway.

BREAKING 9.20AM: A hangar at the Sunshine Coast Airport is going up in flames.
At least three fire crews are now on scene, and a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said more trucks were on the way.
Significant amounts of smoke are billowing from the hangar, and firefighters reported the 30m x 30m building was well alight when they arrived about 9.10am.
