Super lows are set to roll in and chill Rockhampton and CQ

DUST off your ugg boots and fire up your heaters, Central Queensland; a cold snap is on the way.

Rockhampton Bureau of Meteorology officer in charge Paul Wilson said a low pressure system developing in the Bass Strait would push cold air from southern Australia through Central Queensland.

"We will start to see a drop in temperatures from Sunday with daytime temperatures in Rockhampton reaching 19 degrees on Monday and around seven degrees overnight," Mr Wilson said.

"It's hard to tell what the temperatures will be like in Central Queensland for the rest of the week but Tuesday is expected to be quite cold as well.

"Biloela is expected to see a high of 17 degrees and low of one degree on Monday. There may be a bit of frost as well."

Mr Wilson said Rockhampton could expect showers towards the end of this week.

"There is a 30% chance of showers in Rockhampton on Thursday and showers are forecast for Rockhampton on Friday and Saturday.

"Showers are also forecast for Yeppoon on Sunday."

Higgins Storm Chasing reported two super lows would hit south-east Australia one after the other from this weekend, affecting five states.

In Queensland, Higgins Storm Chasing reported a very strong cold front was forecast to sweep through during Saturday and was expected to reach the south coast during Saturday evening.

"Damaging south-westerly winds are possible with this cold front and should impact areas such as southern and Central Queensland, Darling Downs, south-east Queensland, Wide Bay and Burnett and Central Highlands," Higgins Storm Chasing reported.

"Dust storms are a potential risk for western Queensland, especially around areas which missed the recent rainfall and have loose soil."
