Reader says supportive of 'assisted suicide' stance
DR BULWINKEL'S 'End of Life' article (MB 14/6) has my unqualified support.
To quote a family doctor 70 years ago - "The Hippocratic Oath should be interpreted as Thou shall not kill, but must not strive, officiously to keep alive".
I'm sure we have all seen tragically sad cases of prolonged suffering of loved ones with terminal illness and while I respect the religious belief of others that life is God's to give or take away, I believe it is inhumane to prolong suffering "officiously" by artificial means.
In previous letters I have opposed "euthanasia" but supported "assisted suicide". What Dr Bulwinkel proposes is neither of these, he simply says let nature take its course. Hopefully the powers that be will see the logic and humanity in his words.
