Molotov cocktail arson attempt

A 64-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for allegedly trying to light a Rockhampton home on fire using two Molotov cocktails on Tuesday.

No one was in the Archer Street home that the man allegedly tried to burn.

He allegedly set alight two bottles with rags protruding from them and placed them against poles under the house. Neighbours in the South Rockhampton street said they watched as the man lit the bottles and fled.

They ran over to the home and used a garden hose to extinguish the two blazes before they got out of hand.

Police said it was a description of the accused man provided by witnesses that helped them arrest him a short distance away around 3.45pm. The man was charged on Tuesday afternoon with attempted arson.

Officer in charge of Rockhampton CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Shadlow, said the man would face Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 22.
