WITNESSES and shoppers were left physically shaking after an alleged altercation at Hinkler Central involving a weapon resembling a firearm.

Eyewitness Fay Buggy said it seemed like an ordinary day at Hinkler Central until she noticed a man threatening a group of young men outside the food court around 12pm.

"I was standing around the corner just about to have a smoke, I was listening to three young fellas having a chat," she said.

"A guy come walking round the corner and asked if they thought it was funny and the three boys panicked, they all looked shocked.

"The bloke walked away, but then he turned round and walked back and said to one of the boys 'oh you think it's funny' and walked up and spat in his face and then he just pulled a handgun out and stuck it under his chin."

Mrs Buggy said the experience was traumatic.

"It really shocked me, I've never seen a gun before but when I seen the gun I was a bit nervous - a bit scared," she said.

"I wasn't really scared, until I seen the gun - then I was, I was scared for that boy because he's a schoolkid."

Witnesses said the man then got into a white car and drove away.

A number of people at the scene, many of whom were trembling, said they were left in a state of pure fear and were worried the man might come back and turn his weapon on them.

A spokesman for Hinkler Central said he was unable to comment.

At about 3pm today, Bundaberg Police took a 39-year-old man into custody in relation to the alleged incident.
