Suzan stitches together course
SUZAN Stewart wants to get people passionate about sewing.
The Rockhampton woman says sewing has fallen by the wayside in recent years, as clothes have become cheaper to buy.
“I had a girl come in with a skirt to replace the zip, but the zip cost more than the skirt did,” Suzan said.
Suzan’s new business, I Sew, which opens today, offers sewing lessons to help people develop a love for it.
“People are wanting to become individuals again,” Suzan said.
She said making their own clothes gave people the ability to own something no one else had, and to have it fit them perfectly.
“Also, if you’ve made it yourself you know that it’s quality.”
She has developed a workbook to help beginners, with all sorts of tips, including telling them how to read a pattern and how to know exactly how much material they need.
The lessons will begin with teaching students to make a skirt before moving on to shirts, pants and dresses.
Her business, which is on the corner of High and Ford Sts, also offers professional alterations and repairs.
“You’re going to get the same finish you came in with,” Suzan affirmed. Those interested in learning from Suzan should contact her to secure one of the limited spots in her classes by calling her on 0400 811 692 or email isewworkshops@gmail.com.
