Symbolic gathering to fight road toll

TODAY, Queensland Police Service will hold events simultaneously throughout the state, including in Rockhampton, to graphically illustrate the cost of lives lost on Queensland's roads this year.

At CQUniversity on Yaamba Road, North Rockhampton, a mob of 299 people will silently gather standing for a minute's silence to mark this somber occasion as the state's road toll approaches this number.

Each person will represent someone's family member, loved one or friend who will never come home - the real cost that road trauma has on the Queensland community.

The Commissioner and Police Minister will attend the event to be held in Brisbane.

Members of the community are invited to attend the events, which start at 1pm.
