Taipans wallop Hawks

THE Cairns Taipans dealt the Wollongong Hawks another dose of bad luck on Friday the 13th, escaping with a thrilling 61-59 victory at the WIN Entertainment Centre.

Andrew Warren drained a go-ahead triple with just over a minute to play and Cairns held on when Rhys Martin's corner three sailed long on the buzzer.

The Hawks mounted a late surge behind Oscar Forman and Tyson Demos, who combined for three long-bombs on a night where both teams saw big leads dissolve in the second half.

Warren continually made timely baskets on his way to 17 points and Brad Hill added 12 points as the Snakes won their third straight.

''I felt the guys weren't very aggressive (in the first half), they didn't play with very much intent,'' Cairns coach Aaron Fearne said.
