Take a trip into Arj Barker’s mind with new live show

TEASING audiences with his witty and sarcastic humour, Arj Barker is returning to his second home for his national tour, Get In My Head.

"Join me and together we'll contemplate everything from the social evolution of humanity," he joked.

"I'll even mention fondue at some point, and that's a promise. So take a load off your mind and get into mine already."

Arguably Australia's favourite American comedian, in recent years Barker has spent more time in our country than his own, coming to understand our culture perhaps better than we understand it ourselves.

His stand-up is both insightful and pointed.

It has been two years since his last Australian show, but he'll revisit the Pilbeam Theatre on Saturday, September 19.

He loves to make people laugh, but Barker likes to always have a positive message among the gags.

"I have never forgotten that I am a comedian and it is my job to make people laugh, but I like a good message in a joke," he said.

"I have made many great friends over here and it is wonderful that I am really lucky this country likes me."

He said when it came to the difference in Australian and American humour, it wasn't black and white.

Barker believes Australians have a dry and sarcastic sense of humour, similar to his own.

"I am naturally sarcastic so it is a good fit," he said.

Being a comedian was tough when starting out, but Barker would recommend comedy to anyone.

"You have the freedom to make your own hours and if you love to travel and can make a living; go for it," he said.

Barker made his first notable appearance in the world of comedy on US TV show Premium Blend in 1997.

His first appearance was soon followed by appearances on the shows Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Glass House.

Short time after his TV appearances, Barker released his first stand up comedy album called Arj Barker: Issue Were Here, in 1999.

He has hosted the Comedy Central Presents show twice.
