Talented folks wrap up festival

A FEAST of art, entertainment and ideas brought the Woodford Folk Festival to a close yesterday.

The six-day gathering in the Sunshine Coast hinterland drew crowds of more than 90,000, offering a sophisticated mix of entertainment for the whole family.

Event organisers praised the weather for bumper crowd numbers, which almost tripled from last year.

"The festival has just come alive and nobody wants it to end," program manager Chloe Goodyear said.

"Everybody is still in high spirits, having a great time and trying to lap up all that Woodford has to offer."

More than 2000 performances were spread throughout the six days, with 26 sites offering up a range of blues, folk and hip-hop.

Gotye and his 10-piece band headed the musical line-up and big name acts Xavier Rudd, Peggy Seeger, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Husky and The Herd proved just as popular.

The 100 stalls selling clothes, jewellery and gifts were buzzing with sales, while the 46 cafes, restaurants and bars put on feasts to remember.

"The amazing stallholders, performers and musicians have done an incredible job at entertaining the crowds this year, we couldn't be happier," Ms Goodyear said.

"There were definitely some memorable moments to be taken away from the festival."

Crowds last night gathered at the festival's amphitheatre to watch the annual bonfire ceremony.

A few words from organisers and the completion of a giant puzzle, which represented the meaning of the festival, concluded this year's event.

Ms Goodyear said the party would continue throughout the night.

"It has been a massive year for us and now it is time to really let our hair down and have a fun night," she said.

"We have set a benchmark this year and we hope next year will be just as good, if not better."
