Tanner a tip to ignite team

THE Central Queensland Capras will be looking for Josh Tanner to use his skill to add significant spark to their frontline this weekend.

Tanner makes his first appearance in the Capras colours in today's Intrust Super Cup round four match against the Ipswich Jets.

The match closes a big day of footy at Rockhampton's Browne Park, which begins with the Under-11 and Under-12 Rockhampton Representatives trial against Ipswich.

Tanner has been training with the Capras for the past four weeks and is making his debut for the side this afternoon.

CQ Capras coach John Harbin said Tanner was a good club footballer having previously played for Brothers in Bundaberg before transferring to Rockhampton.

"He has been training really well," Harbin said.

"I'm sure he will come out looking strong against Ipswich on the weekend.

"Josh will come off the bench as hooker and I'm fairly certain he will slot right in."

The Capras coach is quietly confident heading into round four, embracing his side's thrashing at the hands of Souths Logan last weekend.

"I'm expecting a continued improvement," he said.

"We started the season off with a great win against Sunshine Coast, then played terrible against Wynnum Manly and played a half good game against Souths Logan last weekend.

"Our biggest thing is consistency and to a lot of our boys, this level is still new to them."

Although heavily beaten, there has been no panic among the coaching staff with a similar squad named for today's match against the Ipswich Jets.

"It will be a tough game, we knew when we started the season it was going to be 22 tough games," Harbin said.

"We are a team that has to play to its maximum to be competitive, unlike in the local competition."

Harbin does not rule out positional changes this weekend with Cooper Nobbs, Dan Randall and Dan Pickering out of the side due to injury. "Two of our squad members Gavin Duffy and Kevin Mordsly will return from injury to local league action for Brothers this weekend," he said.

"I'm hoping they can pull through and add to our stock for next weekend's game."

The CQ Capras will take on the Ipswich Jets this afternoon with the kick off at 2pm at Browne Park.
