Taxi driver love triangle: 'I hope he gives you the pox'

A LOVE triangle between three taxi drivers has landed a man in court on domestic violence charges.

The man pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court after his ex-spouse made formal complaints to police.

Between October 19 and 28, he sent a large number of aggressive text messages to his ex-wife, threatening her lover.

The court heard several messages, ranging from "I've met people who have shot people for this, it can happen” to "tell him his life is in danger” to "I hope he gives you pox”.

Criminal lawyer Doug Winning told the court his client turned to alcohol after the breakdown.

"The threats are obvious statements of jealousy. Very little of the animosity is aimed at her personally,” Mr Winning said.

"She would start the texting about property settlements and he would overreact on every occasion.

"He has had seven prior domestic violence complaints but no physical violence involved.”

Magistrate Mark Morrow sentenced the man to three months in prison wholely suspended for nine months.
