Rocky girls ready to take on Townsville Warriors tonight

SKATERS, don't go anywhere.

Yvette Renton says she and her Rocky Raiders teammates are ready to put on a show.

Renton, teammate Jayden Zoch and the Raiders launch this weekend's North Queensland Inline Hockey Challenge tonight, immediately after the Friday Night Skate Session at Rockhampton Showgrounds.

The Rocky girls take on Townsville Warriors at 9.30pm in the first of three matches over the two days.

Despite the late-night start, Renton said the action inside the rink would prevent anyone from going to sleep.

"We'll keep everyone up, it's a Friday night and bed time will be the furthest thing on people's minds."

The pair will be joined by inline hockey players from throughout North and Central Queensland at the annual challenge.

The competition will feature teams in under-11, 14 and 17; as well as Senior A and B, with players from Townsville, Mackay and Cairns taking part in 22 matches over the two days.

A confident Renton believed her team could win all their matches.

"We've got a good chance. Our team is completely just Rocky players and we play together on a Wednesday night whereas the other teams will have players from different towns in them - that's got to help us," she said.

A fired-up Renton, who started playing inline hockey as a 12-year-old, was particularly eager to take on the Jesters tomorrow.

While a majority of the Jesters players will be from Townsville, Renton's father, Alec, will also suit-up for the northerners.

"I'll just tell him to watch it," she said.

And, will the pair be involved in any rough stuff?

"Why not, he'll forgive me," she said.
