Teen burnt after car 'melts' in police chase

A TEEN has been taken to hospital with burns after a car wheel rim started melting in a police chase.

The car tyre was spiked by police but the vehicle continued to be driven on the bare rim.

When police caught up with the car  the teen is believed to have fallen on a super-heated metal substance while being taken into custody.

Police have charged two people with multiple offences after the incident in Inala.

"About11.30pm, police attempted to speak with two male occupants of a vehicle near Tern St, before it allegedly drove off, " a police statement said.

"Police attempted to intercept the vehicle before it was spotted driving dangerously along Blunder Road and Inala Avenue.

"Two men, a 17-year-old from Acacia Ridge and an 18-year-old from Bundamba, were arrested a short time later on Oxley Road.

"The 17-year-old man was treated for burns and bruising at the Princess Alexandra Hospital after falling on a super-heated metal substance whilst being taken into custody.

"The substance is believed to have been left on the road as a result of the vehicle continuing to drive on its rim after a tyre deflation device was deployed."

The pair have been charged with a number of offences, including burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in relation to the break and enter of a home and the theft of a vehicle earlier in the night at Highgate Hill.

They have also been charged with offences including receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs.

The 17-year-old is due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court today. The 18-year-old is due to appear in Richlands Magisrates Court on November 21.
